Loch ness from the Inverness end

Just opened my tent (without getting out of my sleeping bag) and took this one. Boys very pleased with the selves that they kayaked literally as far as the eye could see in one day (about 25 miles) or a kayaking marathon as Toby put it

The warmth of the sun!

Nearly done the length of the loch in a day!

My camping place

Just lovely. By a babbling burn. Foxgloves behind

Sunset over loch ness

Our campsite on loch ness

Caroline took a while choosing this one and we were glad

The wind has dropped and loch ness is. Millpond

Our first view of loch ness

By wheel barrow

Almost a mile to carry our boats around the flight of locks into loch ness

A swedish ship at fort Augustus

The exit of oich

We have a choice here .... There is a boring canal or fun river to take us to fort Augustus (the beginning of loch ness) our guide opted for the canal as the river was too high. See the weir photo next . The banks are burst.

Finally arrived at next campsite

After padding up the remainder of loch lochy we used the campsite for users of the waterways(free!) at the lock at the north of the loch. There is a proper loo there too. And a floating pub from where we had pasty and chips and I had a pint of lovely Scottish ale

Choppy waters

We buddied up to make a raft as the swell was pretty high in places

Rain and more rain

We left our campsite finally after spending a day of rest in the tents. But it seemed like it had rained all night and it was still raining as we left.

Tony's job title: supervisor of pyrotechnic activities

Basically this involves Toby remaining dry while reading a book and offering advice to those of us who have walked
Many hundreds of yards along the beach to get firewood. Hmmmm I'm doing something wrong somewhere......
